Preparing section by section
General Intelligence and Reasoning (20 questions): Draw diagrams for relations and directions, and write series differences on paper. Do not try to solve everything in your head.
General Knowledge and Awareness (20 questions): Use a district-wise or era-wise table for facts, and answer a timed set every day to move the facts from short-term to long-term memory.
Quantitative Aptitude (20 questions): Do short timed sets of arithmetic every day. Check each answer by estimation, because a wrong sign or a missed zero is a common loss.
English Comprehension (20 questions): Learn the grammar rules that decide most questions (agreement, tense, articles, prepositions) and add ten words or idioms a day. Short daily sets work better than one long session.
Computer Proficiency (20 questions): Learn the full forms, shortcuts, memory units and the basic features of Word and Excel. A week of short daily practice is usually enough to score well.
Using the mocks and topic tests
Start with the diagnostic test to find your weakest subjects, then work through the topic sets for those subjects. Take a sectional mock each week for the section you find hardest. In the last two weeks, sit full papers of 100 questions in 80 minutes, and spend as long on review as on the paper. With no negative marking, guess only when you can remove at least one option.
Common mistakes
- Studying only the subjects you like and leaving the weakest for the end
- Taking mocks without reviewing the wrong answers
- Ignoring the time limit during practice, and then running short in the real paper
- Relying on one source and not checking the board's own notice for changes
Practise
Start with the diagnostic, then try the full-length mocks and sectional mocks.
