Looking for SSC CGL important questions? Rather than a random list, the best approach is topic-wise practice: take a topic, learn the pattern, then test yourself under time. MockNPrep has free, original topic-wise sets for SSC CGL, sorted from Easy to Hard.

Tier 1 at a glance: 100 questions · 200 marks · 60 minutes · −0.50 per wrong answer. Four sections of 25 questions each: General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension.

Where to start

  • Quantitative Aptitude: percentages, ratio and proportion, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, time and work, speed-time-distance, averages and algebra basics. These need practice more than theory
  • Reasoning: series, coding-decoding, analogies and classification, blood relations and direction sense
  • English: error spotting, fill in the blanks, synonyms and antonyms, one-word substitution, idioms
  • General Awareness: static GK, polity, economy and current affairs

How to practise a topic

  • Round 1: untimed, to learn the method
  • Round 2: timed at about 36 seconds per question, since 100 questions in 60 minutes allows roughly 36 seconds each
  • Round 3: retest only your wrong answers
Negative marking: with −0.50 against 2 marks, a wrong answer costs a quarter of what a right answer earns. Guess only after eliminating options.
