Analogy MCQs with Answers for JKSSB and SSC CGL Reasoning

Reasoning · 2026-10-13 · 7 min read

Analogy questions ask you to find the same relationship between two pairs: 'A is to B as C is to ___'. They are among the fastest scoring questions in reasoning, and the JKSSB Sub-Inspector and SSC CGL papers both test them.

Method: first say the relationship in one sentence ('a doctor works in a hospital'), then test each option with the same sentence. If more than one fits, make the sentence more specific.

The four patterns

  • Object and use: pen : write :: knife : cut
  • Worker and place: doctor : hospital :: teacher : school
  • Number relations: 5 : 25 :: 7 : 49 (squares); 3 : 27 :: 4 : 64 (cubes)
  • Letter patterns: ACE : BDF :: GIK : HJL (each letter moves one step ahead)

Common traps

  • Right sentence, wrong order: 'bee : hive' is not 'hive : bee'. Keep the same direction
  • Two options fit: make your relationship more exact (a part of, a product of, a maker of)
  • Numbers: check squares, cubes, and add/multiply patterns before anything else

A tip for the JKSSB paper

Reasoning carries real weight in the Sub-Inspector paper (General Intelligence & Reasoning: 40 marks), and SSC CGL Tier 1 has 25 reasoning questions. Practise analogies in short timed sets; our SSC CGL important questions has a sample set, and the Sub-Inspector pattern explains the paper.
